Group Travel Case Study - World Surf Life Saving Championships

Orbit World Travel Groups _ Currumbin Vikings SLSC

Every two years the International Life Saving Federation organises the Lifesaving World Championships (LWC).

Scope of Work

  • Initially 50 seats were held with Singapore Airlines Groups for group travel from Brisbane to Amsterdam return. Team lists are sourced from the General Manager after qualifying local competitions in different disciplines.
  • As we received qualifying names and contacted them – more than half ended up changing their dates for pre and post travel.
  • Accommodation was needed in Noordwijk and Eindhoven but every bed had been secured by SLSC Worldwide, so Orbit had to negotiate for beds near the competition, through this entity, which was a very challenging process because SLSC Worldwide had a monopoly on the available accommodation. To assist moving team members from their place of accommodation to the Championships we organised ground transport by hiring 4 large mini coaches from AMS, which were driven by the tour manager and parents who accompanied the young team members.

We also managed the many requests of the surf lifesavers extending travel plans, particularly into Europe.
